As far as I can remember, I have never eaten Greek food. It’s all Greek to me, if you know what I mean. (Please like this entry if reading this idiom made you laugh. Haha.)
But on my search for a tart drink (as I had so many sweet drinks throughout the day), I ended up at Oh My Greek, a comfort food restaurant featuring popular Greek dishes such as gyros. When I found lemonade on their menu, I ended my search and settled on ordering the lemonade and something new to try.
Looking at their menu, I decided to go for a dessert dish called loukoumades or Greek donuts. It looks like round donuts with chocolate syrup on top – nothing too adventurous. I bought the large order so I can share and waited. It took a while but it was worth it because that assured me that the order was freshly made.
When my siblings and I got to try the dessert dish, we found it to be deliciously chewy. It reminded my sister of rice cakes but I said these are Greek donuts so they’re not made of rice flour. This recipe from My Greek Dish mentions that the loukoumades is supposedly crispy so… I suppose the trapped steam and the oil made it chewy…? I think I need to order another batch from a different branch to find out.
The first branch opened its doors in Makati last year and has been expanding to other places in the metro, as it is the restaurant’s mission to make Greek food affordable and accessible to many Filipinos.
You can find out more about Oh My Greek by checking out their socials: Facebook and Instagram. The menu is accessible in this Facebook link while their list of branches (as of writing) are found on this Facebook link.
I’ll definitely try to eat in this restaurant and try more of their dishes. I hope you’d try them as well and let me know in the comments which one/s you like best.
Yours truly, Anj
